Choose Where Product Descriptions Come From

By default, Retail Cloud Connect indexes the standard Shopify product description in AI Commerce Search. Merchants can instead use a product metafield as the indexed description.

When to Use This

Use a metafield as the source when the most complete descriptive copy (curated, SEO-tuned, or long-form) lives in a metafield rather than the default Shopify description field.

This setting replaces Use SEO Descriptions, and existing choices are not migrated. To keep using Shopify SEO descriptions, copy them into a product metafield and select it.

Set It Up

1. In the Retail Cloud Connect Shopify App, open Advanced Settings from the Filters & Data page.
2. Under Import Settings, select a product metafield from Product Description Data Source. Options appear in namespace.key format.
3. Save. The new source applies on the next catalog import.

If the selected product metafield yields text, Retail Cloud Connect uses it as the indexed description. Otherwise, it uses the standard Shopify description.
